How To Get a Library Card - How to Handle Damaged/Lost Items
In order to check out library materials or request items from other libraries, you must have a current library card.
Any resident of a Massachusetts community which is eligible to receive State Aid to Libraries Grants, or any full-time student in Massachusetts, is entitled to a free library card. Current library cards from other public libraries in C/WMARS (Central/Western Massachusetts Automated Resource Sharing) may be used to borrow Meekins materials. However, college library cards may not be used at public libraries. Check this list of C/WMARS libraries or look for C/WMARS on the card.
If you live in another state, you may purchase a library card for an annual fee of $35.
You can apply for a card at the Circulation Desk at the library. To register you must:
  1. fill out an application
  2. present a photo ID, such as
    • a driver's license,
    • a passport, or
    • school ID
  3. present proof of current address, such as
    • recently cancelled mail with current address,
    • a driver's license with current address,
    • pre-printed bank checks with current address,
    • a lease,
    • up-to-date car registration, or
    • FID card.
Children must be at least 4 years old to register, and a parent or guardian must co-sign the application. All children who sign-up for their first library card receive a "welcome" book bag with prizes inside!

Lost or Damaged Items
It is your responsibility to replace or pay for any items that are lost or damaged. If an item is lost or damaged, the patron will be charged full replacement cost for the item, plus a processing fee of $2 per item. The patron may clear their account by returning the items if found, or paying the billed cost. Replacement items will not be accepted for lost or damaged items. If the materials belong to another library, checks must be made out to the owning library.
Any exceptions must be approved by the owning library and the director. Failure to replace or pay for lost or damaged items may result in suspension of borrowing privileges at the Meekins Library and other libraries in the C/WMARS consortium.
