Friends Newsletter
June 7, 2021
Hello Friends,

What a year! Here’s a quick update:

Thanks to your votes along with those of other Library supporters in our town, we
received a Florence Bank Community Awards grant for $3,815!

The Board of the Friends has continued to meet, via Zoom, during the pandemic. We
took some time to polish our Mission Statement (see it on the Friends tab on the
Meekins Library website) and we are updating the responsibilities for Board
officers. We have just welcomed three new members to the Board: Nikki Gardner,
Dereka Smith, and Freda Brackley.

We have supported several Library projects, including Roland Merullo’s discussion
of his book From These Broken Streets, and the program by Barry Dietz about Irish
writers, Emerald Isle: Four Irish Writers; the Valentine’s Day Make and Take grab bag
(and cookies!) project for kids; and we funded some new furniture for the
remodeled Riverside Room, which you will see soon, when the Library re-opens!

As you’ve heard by now, we are trying something new: some mini summer book
sales, partly to make up for the October Book Sale we had to cancel last year, and
partly because we’ve missed you. The second one is coming soon: July 10th. We do hope
to be able to have our October sale this Fall. Let’s hope those covid numbers stay
low.
